Maybe the Adebayor saga has pulled longer than expected. For one, most of the Arsenal fans wanted him out for anything in excess of 20 mill pounds. Until a few days ago, I always thought that the only admirer of Adebayor was Mr Carlo Ancellotti. So naturally I thought he would be the first to make a move for Adebayor. As we found out Man City seem to be on the drivers seat to land Adebayor. A position that is great for them to get a bargain. Arsenal have already admitted that he is not wanted( ok not officially). So where does all this leave us. What if the whole Man City deal fell apart? or what if it works out?
What would life without Adebayor mean?
FIRSTLY it would definitely mean a vacant locker in the Arsenal dressing room. But I dont think Arsene will be desperate to fill it. Especially knowing his shrewd ways in the transfer market. Chamakh‘s club has already claimed that they wouldnt want their striker to leave. And Real Madrid wont be ready to let Huntelaar leave cheap especially after they have a 15+milpounds offer from Stuttgart. Which, by the way, they have accepted.
But team-wise the dynamics will surely change. The main strikers role will surely up for grabs. I assume Van Persie is more or less assured of his second striker role. This may bring Eduardo/Bendtner to the fore.
Eduardo as you will surely remember was brought the same year Henry was sold, and touted as a replacement to Henry. But that position was taken by Adebayor. So is it time for him to really take up that role. It would be a treat to see Van Persie and Eduardo played together. Technically they are too similar, but if they click. God I hope they click. That would be amazing. I think that would be the combination that stuck. But that would bring about a change in the way Arsenal have played with respect to their strikers, it would be different from the last 2 years.
Bendtner on the other hand is considered to be more similar to Adebayor. But this is not entirely true. He has played his best alongside Adebayor. And has showed potential as a second striker. A role that cant be his. But to thrust him directly into the main strikers role seems a little premature. Many say he may just have come of age. This will surely be known in the next few months.
None of the other potential strikers potential are a direct replacement either. So there will be change at the Emirates for sure.
But there is this other possibility. Adebayor seems to be sizing all his options right now. He tried to manouevre a way to Manchester United and Chelsea apparently. He also still hopes that AC Milan come around and make a bid. But as it is common knowledge that Arsenal determined to see Adebayor leave this season, it is also common knowledge that Man City is the only possible destination. Man City have the edge to hold out for a bargain. And this may see this deal ending in a deadlock.
If this happens , then this could spell doom for Adebayor for sure. It would surely affect the role he has with the club. Knowing that he was not wanted. Also, the already delicate relationship he has with the fans will worsen. The fans are already rejoicing his departure, especially after the antics he had with the media at various occasions. It wouldnt be disaster though. I for one would be glad to have him to stay and fight. It would be him proving a point to the fans.
Personally, I dont think it is a wise option to sell Adebayor to Man City. I dont think a 30 goal a season Adebayor is what they are looking for. A 15 goal a season would do for them. They would have Robinho and Tevez to do the scoring. Why to sell our main striker to a team Arsene knows will be going for the top 4 position. If Adebayor were to be sold to AC Milan, Barca or even Chelsea, that wouldnt be a problem. Infact Arsene should have sold him last season, when he had a 30 mil pound tag over him. That would have been a good time. We could have got Huntelaar. But yeah , it is easy to say these things in hind sight.
